Exhibitors, visitors and organizers are unanimous: With its 3rd edition from 09 to 11 May 2019, plastprintpack & agrofood Ethiopia reaches a new level.  

Ethiopia is developing rapidly and the fair is keeping pace with this development:

  • With 153 exhibitors from 18 countries in 2019 compared to 57 exhibitors in 2018, the event became more than twice as large.
  • Despite the introduction of an entrance fee of 80 Birr for non-professional visitors (donated to SOS Children's Villages Ethiopia by the organizers), the number of visitors increased by 20% compared to the previous event. From 2,673 in 2018 to 3,205 registered trade visitors in 2019. This has also significantly improved visitor quality. 
  •  With the 3rd edition, the organizers have succeeded in creating a genuine trade show community.

The visitor & exhibitor survey of plastprintpack Ethiopia 2019 confirms high satisfaction rates.

94% of the visitors recommend the event.

Exhibitors were satisfied or even very satisfied to the following extent:

  • 96% with the quality of the stand construction
  • 90% with the services of the organizer fairtrade
  • 69% with the event as a whole

72% of the exhibitors intend to participate again next year.
70% would recommend plastprintpack Ethiopia to their peers.
67% said they had been contacted by interested prospects via the plastprintpack industry portal.

What makes plastprintpack & agrofood Ethiopia so unique?

Due to the upbeat market development and an ever increasing interest in the Ethiopian market, the 3rd edition of plastprintpack and its partner event agrofood Ethiopia 2019 continued the success story. The event is organised by the German trade show specialists fairtrade in cooperation with their Ethiopian partners Prana Events.  

  • Not less than five official country pavilions were present this year, namely from China, France, Germany, Italy and Turkey. Germany and Turkey were in for the very first time with official national pavilions while China, France and Italy renewed and upgraded their pavilions. 
  • 152 global technology leaders from 18 countries presented their solutions, products and technologies tailored to the needs of the Ethiopian plastprintpack & agrofood business community.   
  • Strong international presence: The exhibitors come from Austria, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malaysia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and USA.     
  • Strong presence of international market leaders in plastics raw materials and plastprintpack technology.    .    
  • The interactive plastprintpack & agrofood portals allowing exhibitors and visitors to communicate and to arrange business meetings before, during and after the event, all year round.

fairtrade supports SOS Children's Villages Ethiopia in the following way:

  • The SOS logo appears throughout the marketing campaign surrounding the trade fair.       
  • Representatives of SOS are introduced to potential cooperation partners on the exhibitors' side, for internships, apprenticeships, donations,... 
  • And last but not least, the entire entrance fees are donated to SOS.

Ethiopia’s ambitious targets up to 2025 - High sustainable GDP growth

According to the Ethiopian government, Ethiopia, until 2025, shall become the manufacturing hub of Africa, and its population shall achieve middle-income status. All this shall be reached within the framework of a carbon neutral economy.

The country is demonstrating continuous and high GDP growth for over 14 years now. As a result, Ethiopia became one of the world’s fastest growing economies and an impressive investment destination in Africa

Ethiopia’s GDP increased from US$ 65 billion in 2015 to US$ 86 billion in 2018 and is expected to reach US$ 90 billion in 2019. East and Central Africa’s largest economy is expected to reach 7.6 percent GDP growth for the Ethiopian fiscal year 2017/18 (July 8 to July 7) and real GDP growth between 7.8 and 10.0 percent for 2019 to 2023. EIU / GTAI

Ethiopia’s plastics industry is growing at a breathtaking pace

The Country Cluster of EUROMAP-European Plastics and Rubber Machinery confirms significant growth for Ethiopia.

  • With 100% of raw materials imported (mainly from the Middle East, Europe and Asia), the Ethiopian market has great potential for exporters of plastics in primary forms. In the years 2007 to 2015, for example, imports of plastic raw materials increased by 19.4% annually, from 43 kt to 178 kt, a plus of 314%! This makes Ethiopia the second largest importer of plastics in primary forms  in East and Central Africa.      
  • The per capita consumption of plastics in Ethiopia has grown by 13.7% annually over the past ten years, from 0.6 kg in 2007 to 2.4 kg in 2017 and is estimated to be 3.2 kg in 2020.    
  • Ethiopia’s plastics consumption has grown by 17.5% annually over the past ten years, from 44 kt in 2007 to 220 kt in 2017 and is estimated to be 308 kt in 2020.

East and Central Africa’s largest importer of plastics machinery
Between 2012 and 2017 Ethiopia’s imports of plastics machinery increased by 22% annually, from 12 million euro in 2012 to 35 million in 2017.  

Second largest importer of printing, paper processing and packaging technology in East and Central Africa
Ethiopia’s imports of printing & paper processing technology increased by 18% annually, from 8 million euro in 2012 to 18 million in 2017. Its imports of packaging technology grew by 48% annually, from 5 to 35 million euro. VDMA
