German Engineering Federation VDMA
Martina Claus, Head of Market Development Africa – VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association
VDMA, the German Engineering Federation, represents more than 3,200 companies of machinery and plant equipment in the capital goods industry, making it the largest industry association in Europe.
The Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association is one of the 37 industry-specific associations within VDMA and comprises more than 300 companies at present.
Our member companies manufacture bakery machines, confectionery machinery, meat processing equipment, dairy and beverage technology, machinery and equipment for vegetable raw material processing, technology for pharmaceutical products and cosmetics and, of course, packaging machinery.
Ladies and gentlemen, in 2016 our association organized a market exploration trip to Ethiopia. A delegation of 13 member companies visited the country, to learn more about the Ethiopian food processing industry and to develop first contacts.
In 2017, a significant delegation of German companies participated in the first international agrofood & plastprintpack Ethiopia trade show.
Now in 2018 and 2019 again German companies present their best know-how, services and their latest technology in Addis Ababa. Manufacturers of machinery, ingredients and materials for the production and packaging of food and beverages present a broad selection of their products and look forward to intensifying their contacts with the Ethiopian industry.
Packaged food and beverages form the best-performing industries in Africa, despite the challenges for the economies. This is especially true for Ethiopia, the country with the second largest population on the African continent. In the last ten years the annual value of food and beverages produced in the country has increased thirteen times to nearly 6 billion Euros in 2016.
In the same period the annual imports of machinery for food and beverage processing and packaging from all over the world have more than quadrupled to 157 million Euros in 2017. These figures reflect the growing demand for processed and packaged foods and beverages in this country. Reasons for this are the increasing prosperity and consumption of a growing population, but also the effort to expand the added value in the processing of foods.
German manufacturers, as the world leading exporters of food processing and packaging machinery, belong to the most important suppliers for Ethiopia’s industry. Our companies’ advanced technologies, a wide variety of products and tailor-made solutions for specific customer requirements strengthen the economic performance of the local manufacturers.
agrofood & plastprintpack Ethiopia 2019 gives you an excellent opportunity to meet leading German companies and to learn about the latest developments and trends in the sector of food processing and packaging.
